Following from my recent post about our photographer, PatB, I have some yummy picture-goodness to share today – our engagement photos! Shortly after the Mister and I got engaged (December 2009, remember?), we headed to our local park and spent a freezing cold half-hour in the snow with my camera on a tripod and set on 10-second-timer. This yielded some actually half-decent shots, which was a nice way to commemorate our engagement. Here’s our favourite from that day:

Fast-forward to June 2010 and me pondering what it would be like actually working with a professional on W-day itself. Our photography package already includes a “Trash the dress/day –after” shoot, but I decided my preference would actually be to do a short shoot prior to the day, so that the Mister and I could get a feel of how Pat works, and also try and relax a little while being ‘directed’ in how to pose!
I decided to ask Pat if he’d be willing to switch our post-wedding shoot to a pre-wedding shoot, and was shocked, and extremely pleased when he offered to do both – with the pre-wedding shoot free of charge! We came to this arrangement as Pat is currently trying to build his portfolio of Lifestyle portraits – so we acted as his models for a couple of hours, and in return he can use the pictures for publicity etc. Read the rest of this entry »
Photography has been a hobby of mine since I was a little girl, I was given my first camera as my 10th birthday present. My dad has been a keen photographer for many years and was keen to nurture my enthusiasm early on.
As such, photography is one of my personal priorities for our wedding. Even before we were engaged I was losing myself in the beautiful pictures on several wedding photographers blogs, but when it came to choosing someone to shoot our own wedding and the reality of how much some photographers can charge, I began to get despondent.
It seemed like to have any hope of getting the type of pictures I wanted, for the £1000 we’d budgeted was going to be an impossible task.
I thought my requirements were simple enough;
Local photographer with a portfolio we both liked,
Costing £1000 or less,
Offering a ‘no-album’ package where we’d receive a disc of all photos with a minimal amount of post-processing and from which we can make our own album at a later date.
However, it seems that albumless packages aren’t common among wedding photographers here in the UK at the moment, and almost everyone I enquired with would only offer us a package where we’d receive from 40 to 100 or so photos, in an album.
Then I remembered Pat, an ex-colleague who’d left our office to pursue a career in wedding photography. A quick google and ten minutes later and I’d emailed him to make an appointment to chat further. It didn’t take long for us to make the decision to ask Pat to shoot our wedding; his willingness to try some of our random ideas for group pictures, and his enthusiasm for his job make him a pleasure to work with.
Pat has been shooting weddings professionally for a year or so now; although he was certainly already an experienced photographer before then!
Pat also shoots portrait and lifestyle sessions; I simply love this shot!
