Ah! Today I am coveting and lusting most severely over fabulous wedding cinematography… Yep, that’s right, it’s no longer just a “wedding video” but a cinematic experience! Ever since I saw the amazing work of Joe Simon and specifically the amazing wedding film for Weddingbee’s Mrs Kitten’s wedding I have been coveting something similar.
There’s just one snag – we didn’t actually budget for a wedding video! (That, plus we live about 5000 miles from Joe Simon’s base in Austin Texas, though he’s practically just down the road from the Mister’s family in San Antonio!)
So, what’s on the list of desirable features for fabulous wedding film, and why can’t I find someone in the UK doing something similar? Here’s my list of requirements:
- Must be set to music, something funky and modern, but still meaningful to us as a couple (no Canon in D or Celine Dion please!)
- The intro sequence should include a voice-over of the vicar’s introduction to the wedding ceremony, plus the bride and groom performing their vows, inter-cut with “still video” shots of the church, dress, flowers etc
- Multiple camera angles of the ceremony (e.g close up plus distance/congregation)!
- Shot in HD and Super8mm and inter-cut with one another (this is what I fell for…)
- Time-lapse scenes!
- Timeline should cover preparations right up to first dance, or even bride and groom leaving
- And one last thing… that magical “kissing couple with the camera panning in a circle around them” shot!
Le Sigh! If anyone out there knows of a UK-based film-maker available next April and who doesn’t cost the absolute earth, please let me know!
